Exactly I am a bit of a wimp concerning chopping the roof out of the top of my precious (sounds familiar) Van

Re: Betty White!!

I was thinking about you Andrew. Sence you and I are the Chevy stepchildren of this Forum. I will be sure and log every step. I will say that when I cut the top off my last Van for the same type of euro top It was very spooky and exciting at the same time. I think I almost passed out from holding my breath. (not advised).

I pick up the top this weekend on Sat and will be doing the install the next weekend.

Ron

What swivel mount did you use? I just picked up the little brother to your van (1500 AWD) and interested in installing a swivel if I can convince the girlfriend that we need to remove the cargo partition. She liked the idea of the safety cage to stop projectiles in a crash.

I bought mine from Discount Van and Truck if you google that name it will come up. Look around their web site and you will find the one for your year and for the Express. It was super easy to install although it does raise the seat about 3in which worked for me my wife is 5ft.

One thing about this company you need to stay ontop of them their customer service sucks and they really take their time shipping your stuff out. after 2 weeks of waiting I had to call every day for 5 days before they shipped my order.
I hope this helps

Ron

Re: Betty White!!

SO i have the new top on the van not attached. I have it anchored with my Thule racks . It has worked out great for finding the perfect spot for the top. I think im happy with where it is now. And to my surprise I really like the way the Thule rack hold it in place I think i might have found my new latching system. Sweet!! Anyway here are a few pic of the top on the van not attached.
Feedback on placement is welcomed
Thanks Ron

Re: Betty White!!

It's going to snow tonight and all week so I took the top off and put in my wife's workout and art room so i could clean the water tight channel of its old goop and add new goop.
I knew those old chairs would be good for something

Re: Betty White!!

Progress on this? Watching with fascination!

When using VW pop tops on other vans, how does one get them to seal to the roof of the van when they are closed down? Do you have to build up the van roof surface in between the ribs?
