Rust repair/ Top

While I was at it I did a little Rust repair and repainted the top of the van with the same Raptor Liner. Turned out great.

Will be back soon with rest of the install..

Colorado Camper Van High Top INSTALL DIY

Way cleaner cuts than I've seen SMB do when they install a top! Nice work.

Drop the Top

Now that the Frame is installed and bolted down. It is time to drop this top onto the beast. This is where you have to be very clever and somehow manage to get a 14+ft fiberglass top onto your van........... Specially with a 6" ujoint lift and 35"s

Forklift is best, but mine was dead. So I pulled out my trusty John Deere Tractor (with fork lift arms) and threw on some large fork extensions. Wish I had a picture of this, but it was getting late and somehow I managed to get the top on by myself with the tractor. With a few 2x4's laying around I managed to set it on the frame with the 2x4's as "stickers"...then proceeded to go inside and prop one side up with another 2x4 and remove the "sticker" and lower the front side of the top down, and then repeated for the rear. Walla! Drop the top.

Align the top on the frame and with the roofline of van(while it is down all the way). Then Drill and bolt through the top and frame. Pretty straight forward.

Pop the Top

Next is to install the Canvas with tack strip and screws. Pop the top and slip the canvas over the top. Then lift the top ALL THE WAY UP. I chose the start my straight line 6" above the zipper so that the Canvas is centered when fully extended. There is quite a bit fabric left over on the top and bottom of the canvas so make sure to position it right. this will get trimmed later. Start by Stapling the Canvas and centering all sides to the fiberglass top edge(there is a 1x2 along the bottom edge to staple to) Next You screw the tack strip to the 1x2" all around the top edge. Top canvas installed.
