Re: countertop ideas

Thanks to both of you, great ideas. I really like that acrylic, I'll look into that.

Re: countertop ideas

I used Avonite in my home kitchen and it is very nice. Corian-like but less expensive.

Not sure why you say laminate is thick and heavy. The stuff I used, Wilsonart, is about 1/16" thick. It's glued onto 3/4" birch plywood and then has a rubber edge band. I think it is probably the best ratio of cost to utility. Maybe you're thinking of a pre-made laminate countertop, which is made with chip board?

Re: countertop ideas

marine starboard...

This is the same material that white cutting boards are made out of. (self lubricating plastic with a fine micro texture)

Working on my wall panels in 1/4 but it comes in other sizes. Cut, shape, router just like wood.

Purchased from a wholesale plastics supplier the price is not that bad...

1/4 was about $100 per sheet (8.5' x 4) black

Correct, I was. Mine is better than 1" thick. I had a countertop shop make it. I won't do that again.

hmmm, that sounds interesting. I'm liking the idea of that or Avonite.
