Re: First build

I finally got that welder, a millermatic 211. It's allowed me to put some energy into the van.

I took the rv seats that I have that turn into a bed and measured and cut the frame down to fit the seat height of the van.

They were about 9" too tall. It also took some "adjusting" of the wheel well to make the seats sit flat.

They are two part so if you want you could lay one down and have one up still if someone wants to sleep while the other person works in the kitchen or on a desk or something.

I will need to build a frame and make a pad for behind the seats, just like a VW camper. This bed will be about 54" X 74" which is what a full bed measures out at.

So as far as progress. The seats are cut and welded. Of course I ran out of wire with about 2" of weld left to complete. I will finish it later and paint the frame. I placed them in the van and have them strapped in so they don't fly around until I get the floor mounts and seat belts figured out.

Next will be either cutting in the top or building out the interior. The interior will have cabinets along the drivers side with a galley behind the drivers seat.

Until next time.

Re: First build

Did some more adjusting to the seats. I took the leg that I cut out around the wheel well and fit and welded it onto the seat frame.

Once the floor is installed it will sit just above the wheel well and won't need to make any contact there.

Now it's all primed up and I am working on the shelf that will go in behind the seats to finish out the bed. The shelf will have storage below and provide access to my spare tire storage box.

With all these parts coming together it will give me a chance to size the cabinets on the drivers side, and work on the interior build out.

Re: First build

Finished welding the rear deck for the back part of the bed. This will sit behind the seats and have a pad sewn up for the top to extend the bed. Full size bed in this small space will be nice.

Well Im about to order a new transit. This van will be going up for sale. I will not be putting the pop top on in, saving that for the transit. I will finish the bed and put in some insulation and interior to finish the look. Its been fun, but I want a new van!
