First build

HI all,

New van owner, and future sportsmobile builder. Just picked up this 2000 e250. I plan to keep it 2wd but I will probably add an air locker for those times when more traction is needed. Ive read a few of the build ups here and am still trying to decide between a pop top or fixed raised roof style top.

So here are a few pics of the van, and I will post more as the build gets going. The van has a ford window cut into the drivers side, and has a couple rows of seats in the back added by the previous owner. It was a full cargo van initially.

Re: First build

welcome aboard. this place has a lot of smart cookies. more ideas than money in my case, lol. good luck with your build.

would love to see some close ups of the ford window install on drivers side. I really want a ford window in that spot in my cargo too. does it still pop out or is it fixed?

Re: First build

Hi Hammerhome,

I'm also looking into converting a cargo van and the E250 seems like an ideal candidate. I was wondering what sort of millage yours has done and what you got it for (if this is not bad etiquette)?

Thanks
Rob

Re: First build

Dropped by and saw John at quad van to figure some things out. I will probably go with some sort of lift But leave it 2wd and add a locker in the back.

Couldn't help picking up some bushwhacker flares and rear spacers.

I'll add the spacers tomorrow and post some pics.

I love this bike rack as well, best one ive had so far and it survived a couple thousand mile road trip over bumpy roads in Canada.

Rob, I'll let you know the mileage once I get a few more tanks through it. I'm guessing around 13-15 with mixed driving, possibly up to 17-18 on the freeway but that's the best I bet I will see.

Re: First build

Getting around to posting some pictures of the spacers that I added in the rear as well as the bushwhackers.

Both were easy mods to add, thanks to quadvan for the parts and tips on installing them.

If you go to do the spacers yourself make sure that you have a grinder/cutoff wheel handy. It makes the job fast and easy.

Enjoy,

HH

Re: First build

Some other images of the spaced rear axle.

Disregard the sawzall in the photos, using that would not work, it would take forever to cut the tips off the factory lugs. The quick and easy way is a cut off wheel on a grinder.

Re: First build

And here are a few shots after a local mtn bike race.

To those of you who requested the pictures of how the side window was installed on the drivers side. I will get those pics up soon.
