Front seat child bed

I really want a pop top, but the timing is not right and I don't want my son sleeping on the floor any longer. I got the idea from another website. But after a rude email just to get some info, I decided to get to work. I just need to add foam and cover it.

Here it is so far.

Re: Front seat child bed

That's clever, I have often wondered why more people don't use that space. Older VW camper vans used to have fittings on the front door pillars that you attached a hammock slung between a couple of steel tubes onto. Kid size but certainly clears the floor for other things.

Does it just rest on the seats?

SMB sells one as an option. Is that who you contacted? If so, call a different location.

Re: Front seat child bed

nicely done, i like it. simple and effective.

im wanting to do something similar, but with the front seats swiveled around backwards and incorporating all the space between the first bench and the front buckets. would kinda be like a spare bedroom, lol.

I like it and have thought a little about doing that too, but storage is the problem I see. I had thought of hinging it in the middle somehow so you could at least fold it in half. What's your plan for storing it?

Perhaps hinged in the middle to make it easier to stow?

Re: Front seat child bed

Reminds me of my old VW bus set up with anchors on the A and B pillars... The advantage with this one is that I could still store gears on the front seats below the hammock.

And another easy option just resting on the doors.

Re: Front seat child bed

I have not decided exactly how its going to be stowed. My original thought was to attatch/hang it on the celing right behind the front seats, that way it can be lowered into place when the time comes.

I'm glad I didn't finish the project yet, I found the factory console on ebay in the right color(mocha). The factory console does not stick out as far as my ugly wood console that is currently in place, this will give my son more room side to side.

This might work good for our two 50lb Viszlas. They are notorious for sneaking in the back bunk.
