home made shelf -it? and forum introduction!

Hey guys! I took delivery of my used 2007 Ford E250 last Monday. So, like everyone else, the first thing I have been doing is pour over the forums to try and figure out what I'm going to do first! Right now the van is a completely blank slate!

I've decided I want to build a shelf-it style overhead console. How are you guys attaching them? I see some people say they buy the shelf-it just to use the brackets. I can't see spending $80 just for that, so what are the homemade methods?

What other things should I be aware of as I am building this?

Thank you!

The shelf it product is not a bad price considering the material and fit. I am happy with mine. I also would recommend two nice sized velcro straps that match the one it comes with for holding the visor down on each side and keeping the AR15 from bouncing around. Other than that it is worth the $80 bucks.

I built mine, secured it with regular deck screws through the sheet metal right above the windshield. There is a void between the inner sheetmetal and outer (body) so if you don't use screws that are too long you'll be fine, just be careful.

My current van is an SMB with their overhead console and is secured the same way.
