How To Book Reading

Has anyone gotten the book " Travel Vans" by John Speed. It is sold by Stephen D. Stewart in England.

The vans Stewart builds and talks about I would call Class 'E' motor homes or as he would say motorized caravans. He speaks highly of John Speed's book.

I bought a copy several months back and wish I had gotten before starting my last conversion. For those who have not found Stephen Stewart's web site here are some links;

http://www.xor.org.uk/silkroute/equipment/index.html

The link that takes you where you can order the book is:

I do love those Euro style RV's ..... I mean caravans. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Re: How To Book Reading

Hi LenS,

We call those RVs Camper Vans (caravans are the trailers)
That is a brilliant website! I love the pictures of common RV's in the mud like the 4x4s

On this topic I have been looking a lot at the off road capabilities of the Chevy Van
I have already been testing a bit but need to have my new Tires before I attempt anything more adventurous...

Those RV's are all over the place here in Europe, I have seen them go to India with them and obviously other places judging by those links you provided one of my favorit pics is this one:

The white camper van on the right photo is a Hymer they are more the top of the range sedate camper type!!!

Just for fun here are the local Euro-RVs being sold round my part of the world (translated from French):

Thanx for sharing the links

Lens,

Thanks for sharing those sites. Made for some very interesting reading. And it makes my van look more like a toy for short trips.

Re: How To Book Reading

I have read a lot of good things about John Speed's book. I have been waiting around to see if I can find a used one for almost two years and nothing ever popped up. I think I will just have to order from the UK since we are in the infancy of our new build, SMB part deux (sorry that was French).

Ray...you can't just drop a bomb like that without any explanation. How about the details of what you're planning (OK, maybe in a new thread).

Re: How To Book Reading

My copy came fairly fast. Did not even get wet crossing the ocean. I don't use PayPal a lot but it did do the job.

The book is soft cover but both the cover and page paper stock is of excellent quality and durable AND the print ink does NOT smear when you handle a page. I would say about a third of the pages have either good quality photo's or schematics on them. I have read most every page twice and the book still looks as good as new.

Re: How To Book Reading

Just for info I often order stuff in the US over the other way, cost aside no problems with shipping so far...

Re: How To Book Reading

Ray,

PayPal says:

Conversion from:
-$41.03 USD
Conversion to:
£23.99 GBP
Exchange rate:
1 U.S. Dollar = 0.584694 British Pounds

If I remember ...... I think I had the book in less than two weeks.

I am sure his price is in £ so your cost could very depends how may paper dollars we are printing for banker Christmas bonuses. That would impact the current exchange rate.

Saabman,

Glad to hear your stuff also did not get wet.
