Misc. "Home Build": Door Screens, Shower, Fire Extinguisher

There have been several posts lately about the above subjects. We just got back from a week trip and I had a chance to take some pictures of the above.

We use "cat proof" screening on our front door screens. The Chev. Express has exposed black rubber seals all around the front windows. I cut "Industrial Strength" Velcro from Home Depot into 1/2" strips and attached it to this rubber seals. Did this project 10 years ago. Still holding up.

Amount of ventilation is controlled by raising or lowering the front windows.

Made a INSIDE shower two years ago at my wifes request. Used to hand tarps outside and use our Sun Shower. This is much easier. The shower measures about 3.5' x 3.5' at the top and tapers down to about 1.5' x 1.5' at the floor catch pan. The zipper I got at Home Depot is typically is used during remodeling to seal off a room but still allow access. The Sun Shower hangs from the two penthouse 'j' hooks.

Yours truly to show scale....

Lastly someone posted about fire extinguishers.

Ours is located behind the drivers seat. It is a 1A 10BC dry chemical extinguisher. Would be interested in what size and type SMB installs in their rigs.

Overall view....(note shower pan stored under ice chest (covered by insulating cozy).

Yes...a picture is worth a 1000 words.

Neat shower. Do you have much problem with water splashing outside the plastic sheeting?

Since you brought up fire extinguishers, I'll repeat what I said elsewhere.... You DO NOT want to use a regular fire extinguisher inside the cabin of your truck. PERIOD. It will make more mess than you can believe. The hot ticket albeit at a considerable increase in cost is Halotron. (Halon, in the good old non politically correct, don't worry about the atmosphere days). I would also recommend getting the size larger than the little red ones most people carry. Keep the old messy one to use on someone else's rig. West Marine is one source.

Re: Misc. "Home Build": Door Screens, Shower, Fire Extinguisher

FYI

The West web site states that the small ($184.99 size is not good for 'A' type fires: ie wood, paper, trash)
So to have an ABC extinguisher you do need the next size up (medium - $359.99).
They do come with a 6 yr warranty.
They do take up some space in a 'B' RV: 8-3/4"x16-3/16"x7-1/4"

Your personal choice of course is your personal choice. No argument, you are of course correct in that the halotron gas would leave things much cleaner after the fire.

Still wondering the type and size that SMB installs.

Re: Misc. "Home Build": Door Screens, Shower, Fire Extinguisher

LenS-
You are absolutely correct in stating that the Medium Halotron extinguisher is the one needed. Halotron leaves NO residue. My SMB cost me about $120,000.00 with tax and license, so, 360 bucks to save myself thousands (Plus an INCREDIBLE mess) seems like a pretty smart return on investment.
Sportsmobile uses a Kidde Type B:C Size 1- 3 1/2 pound +/_
As you say: My personal choice is my personal choice...

P.S.
I run the same system in my race car because the rules say I have to (and I would any way), and I have one in my boat as well. We have used them and they WORK.
No, I don't own the Halotron Company; but I wish I did!

Re: Misc. "Home Build": Door Screens, Shower, Fire Extinguisher

WVvan,

Have not seen a problem with splash. The top opening feels fairly generous and supplies me with adequate elbow room (I'm 6'0"). The top opening is about 30" x 40".

It would not be good for two people and a bottle of champagne. Indeed would not be good for two people without the bottle of champagne.
