Re: My new home

Looks like a great place for some Atlas transfercase shifters....

Re: My new home

My windows came in today. Can't wait to put them in. I will finish up the rust work this week and will start the floor and walls this weekend. I found the sizes I needed and got the RV crank-out type. From what I read om the forum, this is the way to go. You can open them in the rain. They are made for a two inch wall. Any ideas for the best way to make up the diff in wall thickness?

Re: My new home

How about foil-backed foam board? Easy to work with, and strong enough when used in compression. You can use a router to make the sections around the windows, then use fiberglass batt insulation elsewhere.

Re: My new home

Thanks, I plan to use the foil-backed foam board on my walls anyway. I didn'y know if it was strong enough for the compression to hold the windows.

Re: My new home

Made a lot of progress this week, started last Sunday on the floor. I decided to use Reflectix and then ½ foam with shiny side down. I put down firing strips and screwed them to the ridges on the floor. Made sure I would not hit the gas tank.

Then another layer of foam glued down.

½ plywood screwed down to the firing strips. I did not glue this layer in case I need to remove. I was able to use a whole 4 X 8 from the passenger side wheel well to the sliding door well. That puts the other side pieces under my cabinets.

Under the front seats I used the dense rubber tiles that are used for gym floors.

Re: My new home

I spent Thursday evening cutting out templates from cardboard for my windows.

I made the template 1/2" larger than the window and used it to cut out plywood to use as a frame around the window. This will give me a square area to cut out for my insulation and plywood walls. I won’t have to match the curve of the windows. Also the windows shipped with dense core foam that I will glue to back of frame to compress and match the walls of the van.

It was very stressful to cut the first window. The second was easy.

Now I should get good cross ventilation.

Windows installed.

Last night we had a bad thunder storm come thru. I sat in the van looking for leaks. I have on small drip on the smaller window. If you look at the larger window, the rubber for the top glass had gaps that I filled with caulk. I did not do this on the smaller window. That might be where the water is coming in.
