Thanks to BUFFALO I was able to snag that Espar D2 with a Muffler for $700. It was still in the original box and never installed. Bout to start deep diving on the installation threads, but if anyone has specific advice, please send it my way.

Main things at this point:
  • I've heard the heater must be installed at a certain angle
  • I have the muffler, but don't think I have any hangers to install it with. Any good advice on DIY options for this?
  • I'm installing it with an auxiliary diesel tank since my rig is gas (couldn't pass up the deal/proximity on Craigslist for the D2). Currently planning on using a Jerry can and Jerry can mount on the rear passenger door... shooting for at least 5 gallons so I can make it a week with one tank. Contemplating storing it up on the roof and attaching it to my Yakima crossbars, but still unsure.
  • I've heard it's best to install the unit directly to the van body floor instead of the floor and subfloor

I'm planning on installing Saturday morning and testing it out this weekend before I head out to Bend on Monday. I'll be sure to let you guys know if I have questions along the way.

Im product testing one of these right now... First just set up to run in the shop and then run it in the van. If it works out, I will then plumb it to my van tank. At this cost (actually got it cheaper $159.00) it's worth a try... if it's a no go it can just be my shop/shed heater in the winter months. We've got several #vanlifers working for us that are considering the option.

When I bought my Espar, I was planning on something similar for the diesel fuel...since my van is gas powered...But I recently bought a different van, that is diesel. So no need for the aux. tank.

Good luck with your adventure

Cool - the D2 is a great heater!

Mounting - it is the fuel pump that likes to be mounted at a certain angle, not the heater. Also, I'd be fine with surface mounting the heater to your floor or subfloor as long as your hole in the floor provides adequate clearance for the exhaust line. It gets hot so you don't want it in direct contact with combustibles.

For the muffler, you could just hang/mount it with some perforated metal tape.

Lucky for you the lows in Bend will be up into the 20's next week - they've been in the teens!

MSD - keep us posted on what you think of the ebay special!
