Re: "Parkway Windows"

I had to look it up myself.

Parkway Wiki
I think this is the pertinent part:
Quote:
A broad landscaped thoroughfare; especially : one from which trucks and other heavy vehicles are excluded.

Re: "Parkway Windows"

Howdy.

Regarding these parkways and who can use them I have a white SMB with CA commercial plates. It looks fairly "contractor" -ish but has barndoor windows as well as rectangular windows on both sides in back.

Since older CA commercial plates don't say the word "commercial" or have otherwise distinguishing characteristics (its a numeral-based distinction) would I have trouble on these roads?

I do have belts on a backseat so I suppose my risk would be only if I got pulled over and the officer actually read my registration card?

Thanks for any response.

Re: "Parkway Windows"

Again, I would not worry. Probably the worst that would happen is that they'd stop you and tell you to use another road. You have out-of-state plates, so you could plead ignorance. Again, I don't even think that would happen.

Re: "Parkway Windows"

In 1988, I got pulled over on the SawMill Parkway, by a NYS Trooper. I was driving a 1988 Ford Ranger pickup with commercial plates. He told me that in order to be "legal" on the parkway, I had to have a cap with side windows. Since I had to use it everyday to get to work, I bought a cap & had no more issues. I have no idea why this was either.

Here is the definition of a "truck" and a "Commercial vehicle" in NY.

https://www1.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/m...ckorcomm.shtml

I don't think windows have anything to do with it. I also think that a long time ago, in NJ and NY if you bought a pickup truck or van, you were forced to register it with commercial plates. I think this changed at some point because pickup trucks became personal vehicles that could haul a family around.(quad cabs and the like)

So the rule(law?) that no commercial vehicles, trucks or tractor trailers are allowed on parkways means that your van should be allowed, regardless of windows.

I would interpret it this way, your van is not a "truck" because it does not have 6 wheels, nor does it have 3 axles. I would also say your van is not a commercial vehicle because it does not have commercial plates. I would say your van is not a tractor trailer, because well, it isn't, ha!

Just my 2 cents.
