Review of my RV design specifications and drawings?

Well, I'm going to lay it out on the line here for those of you who want to check out my RV design progress so far....

As some of you may or may not know, due to financial limitations I'm not able to purchase my base van and start my DIY project yet (and I haven't been able to for a few years now), but that hasn't stopped me from thinking, dreaming, researching, writing, or drawing. One of these years I'll be ready, and I want to be able to jump in with both feet and have everything pretty much figured out and planned out so I can just take care of purchasing, installing, and finishing each Phase of my build.

I've put together an "official" design specifications and construction drawings "book" which lists my thoughts, ideas, product selection, components list, construction methods, and even some drawings for my Homebuilt RV Project. This document is actually many "pieces" put together, namely: project, product, and design specifications; construction drawings (CADD); electric, solar, and battery calculations; and other miscellaneous information.

Would anyone be interested in taking a look at what I have so far, and providing constructive (or destructive) criticism on my project? I'd love to hear what everyone thinks about my ideas, design, product selection, etc. And if you could tell me what will work, what won't, or recommend something different, etc., I'd be most appreciative.

One catch: I'd rather NOT have this document made public or uploaded to a public forum for everyone/anyone to just download and use for themselves. I know that might sound stupid, but I've poured countless hours into this project over the past 4 years of my life. I do not want the whole world to download my work and use it for their own purposes. Plus, it's not a finished document yet anyway (it's only about 80% complete). So, perhaps I could email a pdf of this document to those of you who are interested, and you could comment on it in this thread. I'd only ask you to NOT upload or transfer the pdf to any other site or individual.

So, anyone interested in providing some input of my design ideas so far? I believe I could have a pdf ready for your review in the next week, once I add in a few last-minute ideas and research.

Thanks.

I would be willing to do it. I do have some experience - I did a home built van myself 15 years ago and just got done having one done by Van Specialties. I gave them 2D drawings and written specifications, which I will be glad to share with you as well.

It's rare that I have an opinion on anything, but I suppose I could take a look if you're really that desperate for feedback.

I'd be interested. I have my van but won't be able to start doing any actual work on it for about 6 months. I'm spending a lot of time planning and researching on the web - that's how I got to this site.

Sure I'll take a look.
You could invoke security on the PDF file for no Printing or selecting. Works pretty well. About the only way viewers can copy it is the print screen command or grab on a Mac.

Re: Review of my RV design specifications and drawings?

I'd love to take a look at it and may have some insight. I've done 3 camper vans and am on number 4 now. This is the toughest one yet. Used for travel for work with quite a bit of gear, daily driver, and camping/ windsurf trips with my son. Toughest thing is sailing gear for 2 that I keep loaded all the time. Trying right now to come up with a system to switch from work to camping quickly. Maybe a quick cabinet or box swap. Coming up with a system that works perfectly is almost as fun as using it when it's done.

Re: Review of my RV design specifications and drawings?

I'd enjoy looking and sharing my thoughts. I'm in the middle of building my van - a fixed top E-350 EB with SMB 4x4. Everything else (interior, electrical, solar, floor plan) is custom and my design.

Excellent! Thanks for everyone's interest in checking out my specs and drawings. I'd definitely welcome any feedback and input you all have (yes, even you jage).

I'll try to give things one final push this week and try to get something ready for everyone to look at over the weekend. In the meantime, please PM me your email address so I can send you the pdf directly via email.

Thank you!!!

Re: Review of my RV design specifications and drawings?

OK, I just sent out my Specs & Drawings pdf to the 4 people who sent me their email address. I know others mentioned they were interested, but I don't have your email addresses! Please PM them to me and I'll send you the file, too.

I'd love to get as many eyes looking over my design as I can, because more input will make a better RV design in the long run.

Please post your review comments, questions, thoughts, or criticisms here in this thread, since it could benefit more than just me. Just go easy on me, as this is my first RV design.

Thanks!!!
