Roof Rack

Thought I’d share my roof rack build. Designed to hold 300W of solar and 7 feet of gear in the back. If anyone is interested in details just let me know.

Actually, we went with steel. We’re whitewater rafters and our experience is that aluminum welds work harden and crack over time. The rack was under 150# in mild steel so we decided the increased weight was worth it. The Smittybilt gutter brackets are rated for 150# each so the six on the back 2/3 of the Rack should more than cover the gear load.

Thinking of building something similar with the smittybilt defender feet. I'm thinking basket forward to flat in the rear. What height defender feet did you use?
