I can second 1der's underfloor storage box. He showed it to me the other day and I was amazed at the incredible amount of space there was in there. It was above the hitch mount too which is important to me.
I have an available metal gun locker that I'm looking at laying on it's side under my platform bed. It would provide me with a nice amount of pretty secure storage, not get in the way of my future under floor storage, and will require someone to have access to the rear of the van to unlock the fairly secure tubular lock. I plan on locking my Aluminess swing aways when I'm away from the van for extended periods of time. We'll see how it works out.

Do you know if other boxes are not? I've got a hitch and assumed the new space would be the same now taken up by the spare. Guess that's something I'll need to check out with anybody's product.

Great idea. I'll remember that one.

Like, with a chain and padlock? There's an idea to deter somebody wanting to bust into the back of the van.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Aluminess swing outs are designed with a tab on either side that overlap when closed and have holes that line up for a lock.

@WhitH: it's great that NLC is close by. Think I'll pay him a visit.

@Stillvannin: thanks for the UJoint lead. I forgot about that one.

My guess is I'll likely go with one of those boxes and maybe think about adding interior ones, too.

Anybody doing locking storage in a rear-accessible interior, like side boxes?

Have thought of adapting something in a setup like this (from expoportal), but a shorter length:
Otter, could you link the thread you pulled those pics from? I want to do something similar and was hoping to get more info on that build.

Yeah, I tried to find it when I posted the pics. It was from Expedition Portal. I'll look some more when I get some time. It was a really cool setup.

Found it! It's the Vandiana Jones build. Use this link to get to the storage page. He links it to the pages on his build for more detail:

Wow, he did a sweet job on those interior side panels.

Right? I'm going to use his ideas for my rear build. Will have to be careful and neat to live up to this standard. A real inspiration.
