Show me your bed

New to forum, new-to-me o6 E-350 SB. I want to have built a simple folding platform bed 19" or so off the floor (to jam a coolers and boxes and other stuff below from the tailgate) but not too tall to put my nose in the ceiling. I need concept or pic to show a fabricator. Thinking something like alum. L material with a ply top, somehow hinged to fold over itself at 2/3 the total length to take up less space when not in use. Suggesions to mount to floor also welcome. Would like it to be "quick release" when the van reverts to cargo use. Sorry if I've missed it while reading archives. Thanks, rob

Also folding van benches come up on CL from time to time.

Sounds like you have a good idea already. You could try to mock it up with cardboard first to see how it works. Square Tubular steel will provide more strength at a shorter height than aluminum L. And every inch counts.

Anything very heavy should be bolted through the floor. It takes planning to miss all the stuff under the floor, like the gas tank...
