Sliding Door and 4x4, will it open?

Having a heck of a time finding the exact van I want, which is a 99-03 EB 7.3 PSD passenger model with double doors.

I just found what would be the perfect van but it has a sliding door! Am I going to be able to convert to 4x4, add some 35x12.50's and still be able to open up the sliding door?

Luke

Depends. SMB uses rear wheel spacers to make the rear track width the same as the front track - help drivability and stability. With the rear spacers the sliding door will not clear. Not sure about other 4x4 conversion companies.

When I talked with Quadvan (Oregon) a number of years ago, they had a new bracket which makes a sliding door move further away from the van body when opening. You might want to give them a call and pick their brains.

How much space do you have left between the door and tire? Do you have the wider axle and/or spacers on the back?

Quadvan definitely has the bracket. My brother has a slider on his '03 7.3 with Quadvan 4wd and rear axle CorrecTrack spacers.

But will they sell it without doing the 4x4 conversion?

Talked to John about one and he is still thinking about is. They do not usally sell it by itself. My sliding door scuffs with 265/75-16, but it still opens fully.

Re: Sliding Door and 4x4, will it open?

Can you not just make the bracket longer on your own? Or a longer bracket? Or is there something special about the sliding door that would preclude an extension fabrication in by a typical shop?

it was easy on the 75-91 body vans, but no so on the 92 & up. Maybe someone can post some pics...

about 1/16 of an inch.....I don't have any spacers and I do not know the wheel offset. when I get a chance I will measure the distance from wheel to wheel on the front and the rear.

I am headed to Nevada for a week or more, will measue when I get back.
