Re: Swiss Build V.2

Slow progress is being made, but I am getting there...

The photos show the 48 in x 79 in transformer bed, yes it is big but I am 6ft4 so need the length and also the begining of the cabinets... afraid the night shots are a bit dull...

Bed/Sofa and cabinets (notice slot for porta-potti at the rear):

Cabinets and petrol furnace (Will only be used as temporary heating... even though it has a CO detector... I don't believe in taking extra risks...

I also bought myself this really tiny generator just in case... and for outdoor party lighting the kids love it! Not as quiet as honda but much lighter and smaller... the best of Chinese technology...

Re: Swiss Build V.2

I have a portable propane heater by Mr. Heater, it's about 1/3 to 1/4 the size of that one. I've used it in the pickup truck topper on a few occasions (and had it click off from low oxygen a few times) and it is really more than enough. The space is very small and you don't need much to keep it warm.

The downside to something like the Mr. Heater is it can go through 2 bottles of propane on low in one night and only has low and hi settings... but propane is a little safer than petrol and it's much smaller.

Overall it looks great, the bed/bench came out nice.

Re: Swiss Build V.2

Yes heater is overkill for the van but I intend using it in various applications around camping... on the other hand the petrol burner is leaner on the consumption than propane/butane... I won't be using it overnight I don't think... I will be still working on cabinets over this week so more to come

Re: Swiss Build V.2

How many watts does your generator put out. I assume that it puts out 240 volts ac at 50 cycles??

Re: Swiss Build V.2

Saabman --

Your beautiful floor has inspired me! I will put laminate in my van, on a 3/8" plywood base.

My design problem now is the raw edge showing the plywood and laminate stack at the side door and back door, as the floor sandwich stack is about 1/4" taller than the Ford threshhold. I see the same issue in your photos. Were you able to put edging or molding/trim to cover the raw edge?

thanks,

GreyDawg

Re: Swiss Build V.2

Evening all!!!

Ok here is an update:

For LenS my "Jenny" as I have called her is 800w peak 650w continuous with 230v and 12v outlets. I will use it manly for lighting, small 300w heater and if needed emergency battery charging. it runs a 60cc two stroke engine.

For GreyDawg some shots of the side triming which are aluminium right angle strips. I used striped ones for the side door and a smooth one at the rear of the van.

Now for some interior shots:
First the unfolded bed

then the folded bed into a bench seat

Passenger side cabinets, they need to be varnished still...

The cabinet doors are of my design: two lugs at the bottom and ball latches at the top:
Pull forward

Then lift out (BTW note my head doesn't touch the roof like in my V.1 build )

Lug holes drilled out

View of the ball latches

Cabinets viewed from the front with the shelf (not sure what for though )

Bed sliding rails, allows it to slide out then unfold

Under bed folding mechanism from Ikea...

Don't hesitate to ask any other questions... maybe I should open a thread so as not to bog down this one... Admin what do you think?

Re: Swiss Build V.2

Question:Is the bed a straight Ikea product or did you hack/improve/modify one?
Thanks.

Re: Swiss Build V.2

It is modified to have special rails at the bottom... otherwise stock...

Re: Swiss Build V.2

I wonder if the Ikea in Pittsburgh (closest one to me) sells the same things as the Ikea's in Switzerland?
They say it's a small world.
