regarding the armaflex.. You mentioned that you used 19mm armaflex, but that looks more like 10mm thickness. Was that a typo or is that thicker than it looks?

I only ask because Im thinking of doing something similar. Id prefer to use the thick 19mm material, but was concerned about fitting the wall sheeting over it.

By the way, I really like your van

That is indeed 19mm.
I was sceptical too at first, but it turned out great and fits behind my home made walls. For bolting down the walls I left the bracing from front to back (in middle height) open and bolted a 2x1" to it.
I will change my wall configuration, I really don't like the MDF for that. I'm a bit biased between birch plywood (4mm) or just put self adhesive needle fabric over the Armaflex and bolt some aircargo rails were the 2x1 is now.

Thanks for the info Karsten, sounds like it will work out.

THe last few days have been 80-90 degrees. driving around in that giant metal box without windows, I bet its 20 degrees hotter inside. gotta get some insulation in there!

Re wallcovering: Ive been considering options there too. Going directly over the armaflex seems like an interesting notion. mine is getting some cabinetry, so all I need in most places is a back for the cab.

For me the insulation made a huge difference in temp control, also the noise is much less (having a Flowmaster 44 under the van results in some aggressive exhaust tunes, though).
I'm debating the wall issue back and forth right now. Using birch plywood would give me the possibility to add smaller stuff, i.e. power outlet sockets etc, to the walls.

Can you give us some detailed descriptions of how you did your L-Track installation? How did you attach it to the floor? Did you bolt to the frame or use a backing plate under the body? How did you determine the best layout for the L-Track.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing but I was considering doing four rows of track with each pair aligning with the Ford factory seat bolt positions.
Any details would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know where we could get those seat covers in the U.S.?

The layout came from my plans how I want the interior to be, so nothing fancy here. I just mounted the tracks on the higher portions of the floor using M6 nutserts with big washers as backing plates every 6 or so inches. That's plenty as I don't plan to mount any seats on them which are occupied during driving.
In fact, on one of my previous vehicles, a 2004 Nissan Terrano, I glued them to the roof using Sika260 and only 1 nutsert on each end to keep them in place for the Sika to cure. That was 10yrs ago and the tracks are still on the roof and still hold the big roof carrier with a roof top tent without problems.
In the van, I avoided glueing the tracks to the floor. They also act as hold downs for the wood floor and I want to be able to take out and replace any of the wood in case of a defect.

I searched high and low and even had JWA questioning his Ford dealer at gun point, but somehow those for the sides of the headliner seem to be a miracle. My plan B is to replace those with fitting LED lights, would be a double catch, though.

Drop Thomas at Tor-Tec a line and ask him about his Dakar seat covers. Tell him Karsten from Wuerzburg sent you. He might be able to arrange shipping to the US.

Nearly two years later, some news from the van of mayhem........
The side walls are now covered in 2mm needle fabric (Adam Hall #174) and airline tracks are added to the sides. For travelling I added a bed platform made of 18mm OSB with three access panels. Right now, we're on a three week tour through the French Bretagne with the van and everything works as it should.

But, as live goes on, the van will be for sale after the trip. I'm leaning towards something in the 60's-70's muscle car thing since my job won't really let me enough time to go camping that much.
