Transit Build

Hi all,

Just ordered my transit yesterday. For any of you who have experience with those vans, please speak up if you have anything to add.

The plans will be a dry camper that has a raised platform bed, camper cabinet with sink up front that drains to the ground. Cooking will be using a camp stove, I already have a few of those, and I don't want to mess with adding propane etc. Hoping to add an espar or similar type heater to make it comfortable.

Id like to work toward making this one a Pop top, we will see how that unfolds. Here is what I ordered.

2016 Medium Roof T250. Ecoboost 3.5 with 3.31 limited slip. 148" wheelbase.
Magnetic metallic color, charcoal cloth 10 way power seats, cargo model, flip out window in slider, XL trim, tow haul trans with trailer brake, upfitter switches, HD alternator, dual batteries, long power mirrors, rear window defoggers, radio prep package, cruise, remote start, running boards, illumining visors, rear power point, privacy glass.

Looking forward to moving to this larger van. We have plans to expand our family and I want to be able to keep the van stocked and ready to go for adventure.

Follow along if your interested. Ill be starting a list of things that I would like to add.
swivel seat
awning
three sienna seats, fixed with a removable table.
vent/fan
driver side camping window(not yet available from CRL)
raised platform bed.
rear sliding bed tray for bikes and gear.

let me know what I need to add for those that have their vans built out.

Thanks.

HH

For those looking into Transits, FYI there is lots of good info at fordtransitusaforum.com. If ordering new, be aware of all the factory options available, as some are difficult or expensive later and/or would get in the way of a conversion. Sportsmobile has been doing Transits now for quite some time. An alternative for pop tops is Colorado Camper Van. 4x4 conversion is possible through Quigley or QuadVan but they probably won't ever be rock crawlers to the extent that E series can given somewhat limited max tire size. But the Transits offer other advantages.

True yelnam, However, I was shun by that "Transit" community because I'm not a transit.. I'm the lesser/smaller Connect version and yes I've visited/registered with all those sites and granted most do have some sort of build going on.. but nothing like we're planning on doing. We're not approaching this from an RV standpoint.. Just searching for storage options and I think we've found what we've been looking for. Will have something to say and show for it very soon.

Lost,

I've read your posts in other forums. While I welcome you to post here about my future build I would ask that you keep it on topic please. This is a Transit build, not a connect build. Please start your own thread so we can see what you built.

Thanks.

Congratulations with your new van and pending build. Exciting times full of ideas and planning.

I don't see insulation listed in your build list. We would suggest 3M Thinsulate(TM) noise/thermal insulation engineered for vehicles. PM me for a sample. We also produce an adapter that makes installing a roof vent much easier.

We are in Hood River so you are welcome to come out and see our DIY van supplies and components.

All the best,

Hi Hein,

I will definitely be contacting you. I talked with you on another forum and will be making a visit when I get the van.

Looking forward to the build.
