I can vouch for that. Except I left my dang sawzall at a buddies house so I used a cutting wheel on a grinder, but my jigsaw was tearing it up until I broke my last blade. The shower of sparks was impressive from the cut off wheel. Sawzall and a couple-three blades.
Forget trying to drill and hammer chisel the rivets.
I don't think there is anything structural you will miss with the hitch and the cross member there. Should be good to go.
