Had to take yesterday and today working on the wifes VW..(2 days because I ordered the wrong specialty socket)...

But I did get the switch panel installed and ran off the house solar battery so I can keep a close eye on the battery levels...lights and inverter will end up on this panel..

Today most of the day was hanging with friends and kids at the fishing expo..

I was going to put it on a front shelf above the driver and glad I didn't...the volt gauge and switch lights are unobtrusively bright!!

A small shelf under the swing out TV (behind driver seat) will give me another good spot to plug in usb stuff out of the way (drone chargers and gopros)..

Each seat in the back gets a double 2.1 amp USB socket..so kids are never arguing about charging stuff...that's tomorrows install..I already pulled the power wires during the insulating..

Awesome I think I might be using this same spot/set up. Good thinking on the USB sockets for the kids, will make life a lot easier LOL.

My wife and I have 5 kiddos between the 2 of us...part of why I got the van and converted it...on our way to Assatague Island last summer she was following the truck and trailer in her car (truck only seats 6 not 7) and I sucked up a 2x4 from the road and SHATTERED her car window 300 miles from home 200 miles from the beach...fortunately nobody was hurt but it was really scary to think of what could have happened!

Quite a bit of stuff done....Deffinitly not happy with top lift that I built as a test...

But I did get the awning on!! Must be springtime!!

Got all the USB sockets installed!! Double at each seat!! 2.1 amp duals.....

We had a fun weekend...Saturday at an off-road show I found out she's taller than a jeep on 35"s!!

Yolanda also got the hoof of approval when we were transporting a foster pig to his forever home..and he decided that the carpet looked more comfortable than his crate and blankets...at 70 mph...on a turnpike with no place to turn off...(crate is now retired)

I'm confused. Did you re-use the roof piece that you cut out? Or sheet metal to go over the opening? Did you use some kind of gasket to seal in between? More detailed pics of the pop top setup would be great. I'm inspired by your work here to attempt this on my van thus all the questions about it.

The roof metal is 20 gauge sheet steel 5x10ft. I used the upper frame I built to add rigidity to it and also help me form the edges down.

I used a gasket from I think ebay and it works VERY well..I do need to add a little bit of neoprene on the front where the exisiting roof had the ribs to reduce places for water to get under (lower frame is sealed all the way around to keep it from leaking)

it all works VERY well..I wouldnt hesitate to do another one since this works out so well!! as soon as I get some materials I will get the top lift mechanism made and I would be able to knock a roof out in a day once the kit was all assembled..

Thanks for the reply! I'm looking forward to more updates. I'm definitely following this one. I plan to possibly do this in the near future.
