Re: 06 Sportsmobile in Sausalito

I'm pretty sure the communication with the instrument panel changed significantly when they moved to the 6.0L. Also, it's not legal. Any engine swap has to meet emissions for the same vehicle year or newer. If it was a swap to a 6BT (2006 or newer), it would have to be refereed (inspected and approved) by CARB if you live in California. I did this on a vehicle when I lived in CA, and it was pretty painless, but all emissions have to be in place for the MY of the donor engine.

I think this would be an ideal candidate for someone who wanted to attempt to "bulletproof" a 6.0 since it's an engine-out proposition anyway.

"Current appraised value of vehicle is 82k"

Yeah, OK.

Re: 06 Sportsmobile in Sausalito

Email from the seller this morning:

"I have over $140k in this vehicle and had an offer earlier this year of $85k.
But took it off the market.
In hindsite I should have taken the offer.
I know I can get $80k for the truck with a new motor."

I think $60K is a reasonable number with a properly running engine.

As these beasts get harder to find we will see more of this driven by the drying supply.
Heck, I see VW Syncro selling for way more all the time.

And I sure hope that at some point someone will find a solution for the engine swap challenge of the 6.0 ( and I have one too) as that will bring more life into there great vehicles.

Where does the $15k-$18k estimate come from? Crate motor is about $5k. Is it really 125 hours of labor ($10,000/$80). Agree that $60k is asking too much for a lawn ornament.

A long block is about $5k. A complete crate motor is about $12,000.

Flat rate for a long block is 30 hours I believe. Diesel shops around here are $125/hr

While I think a complete motor could be overkill, I do know that a long block job is never just a long block job on the PowerStroke. It would be foolish to reuse the wiring harness, injectors, turbo and other major components.
