Please help me figure out if this is overpriced...

**NOTE: Van is only 2WD

I'm really interested in this van. I went to go see it today. it is not in amazing condition as the ad says. it is in fair-good condition. it definitely has signs of being a 20 year old vehicle. The interior has stains, and the pop top looks only in decent condition. it does have rear ac/heat which appears to all run off the 2 house batteries.

I drove it around and the van ran perfectly fine. it has a lift kit with bilstein shocks and good condition 33" AT tires. very minimal signs of rust underneath although the driveshaft looked like it had surface rust. all the brackets holding the fiberglass running boards were rusted through too.

the guy also doesn't have any maintenence records. he does have the original SMB manual but nothing else. He doesn't have any records for the supposedly rebuilt engine. and he's also the 3rd or 4th owner

the guy seemed trustworthy enough but possibly misinformed. he told me he paid $33k for it a few years ago. He wants $30k for it now.

Do you think his asking price is too high?

Personally, I think that's a great deal. There's not too many 4x4 SMBs out there in the $30k range.. if any.

EDIT: Oh, it's not a 4x4, just lifted? Then yes, I would say it's on the high side, but not crazy.

To duplicate the lift, wheels and tires is about $5000.. and a similar van would probably be about $20,000, maybe a bit more due to location.

My initial thought was that it is overpriced by about $8k. But it all really comes down to what someone would pay for that layout, body, color, etc.

Here's a 2006 EB50 with 160k miles, but its "only" $22,000. It's on the east coast so it may have some rust as well, but its 9 years newer than the one you looked at and $8k less. High miles, but people are saying you can get a reman. engine installed for $5k if you needed one. Inventory Details - Sportsmobile Custom Camper Vans

General question:

What is a SMB build-out (10 years old) worth?

Are the appliances still in good working order after 10 years?

Too broad a question to answer. Too many variables in these builds. A ten year old basic build 2WD van with 100k miles is probably $25k. A 10 year old full 4x4 Aluminess with all options and 50k miles could be pushing six figures.

Sure, no reason they wouldn't be unless abused..

The appliances all worked. The pent house popped up fine. The van drove good although I didnt take it on the freeway.

I looked at a few similar ones without the starcool AC and heat. They had similar layouts and they were both going for $17k. Both of those were sold before I could ever arrange a meeting.
