I've always wondered if it would be easier to buy something like this to swap drivetrains in my SMB rather than doing a ground up 4x4 conversion . . .

I don't think so. Most of the brackets are often welded on, so you are either going to have to do a lot of grinding or copy them and make new ones.

On a side note - 1998 with a 460 V8???

'97 was definitely the last year. That year offered both the V10 and the 460. But I wouldn't be surprised if the final upfitter VIN is a year newer. Pretty common with RVs.
