Re: 7.3L EB Quigley 4x4 - 85k miles - $40k - Solana Beach,

It is not OBDII compatible. At least from what I've read...

Re: 7.3L EB Quigley 4x4 - 85k miles - $40k - Solana Beach,

1995 was indeed the last year for the "OBD 1" system.
Wish I knew that before I bought MY '95 SMB (non-diesel.)

So for you guys that are thinking it's worth more like $30k.....
...what would it take for it be worth $40k?

*1996 or newer? (To get the OBD 2 compatibility/tuning flexibility)
*Newer interior? ('97 or later for the updated dash?)
*dramatically cleaner inside? less issues with the exterior?

It seems like the 7.3 is regarded as the "Best of the best" when it comes to Ford's diesels of the last 20-30 years (most durable, best fuel economy, responds best to tuning without causing issues, etc)....so do people only get seriously enthused about paying good money for the 7.3 if it is a '96-'02? (last year for the 7.3, I believe?) Not a lot of people on here that seem to express a preference for the diesels that came after the 7.3. (I'm sure you're out there....but I don't see them conversing much on here.....)

SO:
From the sound of things.....the ideal diesel SMB is one from between '97 and '02.
(7.3L, OBD2, newer dashboard.)

Y?
N?

Re: 7.3L EB Quigley 4x4 - 85k miles - $40k - Solana Beach,

I think $30k would still be a hard sell.

Re: 7.3L EB Quigley 4x4 - 85k miles - $40k - Solana Beach,

Looks like they dropped the price $10k to $29,995.

Re: 7.3L EB Quigley 4x4 - 85k miles - $40k - Solana Beach,

Happened to see this rig parked on PCH today, stopped to take a look (exterior only)... After reading the posts in this thread I see there is some concern? over the ODB I vs ODB II. I don't know what this means. Can someone enlighten me on this?

thanks...

OBD-II is a standard which was mandated in 1996 for all cars (or U.S. at least I guess, others may know) which uses a standardized plug in (usually under the dash) for diagnostic testing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On-board_diagnostics

It greatly simplified DTC (data trouble code) reading and made maintenance easier for mechanics and do-it-yourselfers. Is it all that important? In my opinion, yes. Virtually all modern code scanners, including data-readers like Scanguage, and also plug in tuning equipment (AKA 'chips') use the OBD-II port. I have a 95 gas van and really wish I had a 96 or newer every time I have any engine trouble. Without it, you are forced to think and problem solve more, which, well honestly, sucks. I don't know a whole lot about diesels, but given the complexities of modern ones I would hate to NOT have the OBD-II port. As for this particular model 7.3 I couldn't say. Does this mean the van is any less nice or should be worth less? Some will say yes and some will say no I'm sure. It is valuable information though, and certainly important if you plan to tune or maintain your vehicle yourself.

Has this sold?

If not, why?

Re: 7.3L EB Quigley 4x4 - 85k miles - $40k - Solana Beach,

Interior is beat up, needs a pretty good facelift on the inside from the carpet up. Exterior has quite a few bumps and bruises.

OBDI is the older style on-board diagnostics, not particularly common.

Starting in 1996 the Feds required OBDII on all vehicles, and it's very commonplace. It's really easy to scan for and re-set check engine codes, etc. The OBDII connector is typically under the dash on the driver's side and it's a standard connector, so any OBDII scanner/code reader will plug in and get the error codes, makes for super-easy troubleshooting.

You can buy a cheap OBDII scanner/reader at Amazon (and a zillion other places) for under $20. I just bought two more OBDII scanners this past week so I now will have one in each of our vehicles.

No OBDII would be a deal-breaker for me but there is technically nothing wrong with OBDI, it's just not as common as OBDII.
