Crazy Custom Buildout Idea

So, take this turbo diesel ambulance:

Convert it to 4x4 (about $12.5k)

Then get a pop up camper. Here's one with a hard body:

http://denver.craigslist.org/rvs/1533460082.html

Take the pop-up part of the camper and attach it to the big square flat top of the ambulance.

Then, use all of the parts of the camper (appliances, electrical system, water system, etc) and use them in the build out.

Not considering labor, that could be a really slick offroad camper for under $20k.

Re: Crazy Custom Buildout Idea

I looked at an ambulance once a long time ago... the box is HEAVY, because it's all steel and is probably designed to protect in a T-bone type accident- protect patient and passengers. At the time I was just looking for something to put in front of my Jeep & trailer, and I felt like the one I looked at was already maxxed out.

Anyway, it would be cool, unique and TALL. I'd consider finding a 4x4 ambulance already, or do the pop-up conversion first and see how that turns out before dumping 12K on a 4x4 convert.

Re: Crazy Custom Buildout Idea

I would just convert using Ujoint Offroad brackets and do it yourself. I am going to change to Superduty axles on my Quigley using his kit in June to get rid of the Dana 44 front axle under my E250 as well as give more Offroad usability. I am looking for a older Apache Hardside pop-up to reframe into a Offroad travel trailer as motorcycles ride inside my Van.

Check out what this guy did with an ambulance.

I think this chassis was the same one featured in this original post.
