Steel bumpers like these with hinges like this are on at least every other Jeep on the trails. Strength isn't an issue. Singe point hinge isn't an issue. Aluminess has to add an upper pivot point because they're aluminum.
On my van with a steel bumper, I built my swing arms with the trailer spindle mounts. In my boxes I carry a bunch of tools, 4) gallons of water, 6) 1 lb propane bottles, and a lot of other misc stuff.
I used UHMW plastic pads directly above the latches to give the arms a sturdy resting place when closed. Between the hinge, the UHMW, and the latch, the arms have very little movement.
Those are nice looking bumpers.
