eBay: 1997 E350 EB w/Quigley and the biggest A/C ever

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-E-S ... vi-content

I'm not going to be able to afford a factory SMB before I want to start doing my travel this spring, so I've been scouring craigslist and eBay for 4x4 vans that I can do some basic interior conversion on. Then I found this sucker listed, with a current bid of just $1k. (Other similar vans from EMI are going for around $15k with more mileage, so I bet the reserve on this is at least $20k.)

I'm a big geek so I'd sort of want to keep the extending 35-foot mast in the back as well as the 19-inch equipment rack that the genny lives in, but check out the A/C unit and duct work in the back! This thing was basically a mobile datacenter.

It's too bad it's probably going to end up out of my price range, because I would totally leave that mast in and get the best 3G signal on the mountain. I'd be a bit worried about the weight of all that steel plate top, though, and of course a penthouse would be right out. But it tickles my dorksense.

You didn't mention it was a dually too.

Is that a flying bridge on top where you can steer from. Is there a crow's nest on the mast too? It would make for an interesting and challenging camper conversion. Take lots of pics if you go this route.

It's got down jacks! Man that would be a great van to stick a large telescope on. Very cool.

Wow, I'm seriously thinking junkyard fixed top... peel that bad boy off and redo it with a less extreme fixed top.

Or, there is always the option of:

"KIDS! Don't make me pull this van over and put you on the roof the rest of the way to Grandma's!"
