Re: Ford Truck wheels

As long as your van is running 8x170mm wheels, you're good. I have F350 wheels on my van.

I was thinking of your rig when I saw this ad. These are hub centric (not lug centric) correct? So all 8 x 170mm are hub centric?

I have 8 x 6.5" lugs. I'm looking for some black ATX Mojaves or Mickey Thompson Baja's in either 16" or 17". Missed a great deal on a set about a month ago.

Re: Ford Truck wheels

As far as I know, 8x170 is hub-centric and 8x6.5 is lug-centric.

Dangit I had a Superduty for 12 years and never knew this. Now I've forgotten something else to make room.

Re: Ford Truck wheels

I was curious and found this to complete my understanding. It's pretty helpful.

Well, I think the author is a little extreme in his attack on lug-centric. The lugs aren't in shear most of the time, if ever. The clamping forces lock the wheel to the hub. That clamp has to be broken before any slippage can put the lugs in shear. And, the suspension (or something else) will give before the wheel slides across the hub - unless the lugs are loose.

I've looked at many, many wrecked cars, lots with lug-centric wheels, and never seen the studs sheared off - even in an accident!

Re: Ford Truck wheels

Good point, but I did like the explanation of how force is applied in different situations. To be honest I've never thought about it.
