Unicorn FS: Is this the same van.....

.....as the one that was just sold for $20k here on the forum in July?

(Original Forum for-sale Thread:
http://www.sportsmobileforum.com/for...ale-19989.html )

Just saw the following listing pop up last night on the San Luis Obispo CL.
No affiliation.

------------------------------------------------------

1997 Sportsmobile Ford E350, Quigley 4x4, 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel - $49000 (Arroyo Grande)

https://slo.craigslist.org/rvs/d/199...305166037.html

Selling my 1997 Sportsmobile with a modified EB15 layout. This Sportsmobile features the legendary 7.3 powerstroke diesel motor with a Quigley 4x4 conversion. With it being a 1997, no smog is required in the State of California. The van is a Ford E-350 extended body and has power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, AC, limited slip rear axle, and tow package. The Quigley 4x4 conversion includes a Dana 60 front axle and the rear end is a full float rear end. This rig has low miles (less than 100k) and is ready for adventures!

Sportsmobile features include:

Voyager high top with tons of storage cabinets throughout the van including bifold doors for privacy, pantry, fold out tables, etc.
Propane system to run the dual burner stove, furnace, and generator
Microwave oven
Aux fuel tank which allows for up to 600 mile range
Starcool A/C
12 volt lighting throughout
Rear dinette that converts to a large bed
Onan generator
4 cf refrigerator
20 gallon fresh water tank
Gray water tank
Fantastic attic fan
Pull down shades for all windows
Fiamma awning
Aftermarket winch bumper made by Warn (no winch installed)
Hookups for shore power with converter to charge the house batteries
Hookups for water
Driver and Passenger swivel seats
Bushwacker fender flares
Pro comp wheels with Cooper AT3 tires

I have all the maintenance records for this van as well as factory Ford repair manuals and all Sportsmobile manuals and literature. The van is in excellent condition inside and out with no major flaws or issues. It has been stored indoors for 99% of its life and is evidenced by the condition of the paint. The interior is extremely clean and in great condition as well. It has a clean CA title and clean carfax.

Asking $49,000. I will not respond to emails asking if this van is still available. If the ad is up, the van is available. Please refrain from sending offers without seeing this van. Emails must include your phone number or I will not respond.

49k? I don't think so. Mid-30s more reasonable. But that's just my opinion.

gonna turn a nice profit. It was a steal at 20 and a ripoff at 49.

10k for the 7.3
12k for the 4x4
3k for the top
8k for the conversion and extras

at least thats how i see it

Ask what you want to, anybody offering a prices because they want to lowball you. Ask as much as you want to ask let the negotiations give you the final price.

Excuse me while I had two bottles of wine for dinner

You see it from a home builder's perspective though, much the same as me and a lot of us here. That's not how hype and commerce work though, and not how people without the mechanical abilities or interest in building their own see it. They see a hyped uber-reliable uber economical fully ready-to-go offroad camper van that you can't get anymore, built by the first name in offroad camper vans. None of this is completely true, in fact some of it is not true at all but that's how people see it and they will pay accordingly.

I agree with all of this. I pretty much went off %80ish of what those items cost new. If someone decides to consider 4x4 $16k, and a fresh high top at $6k, which is much closer to brand new prices, that is most definitely their problem, which im sure youd agree with.

Comes down to people having money but no patience, which drives up the cost of the unobtainable. I have said it before somewhere on here, that I would find it hard to believe that a sportsmobile person sitting around a table somewhere isnt saying something about a new facility or upping capacity becuase the money is out there for the taking. Why let the secondary market capitalize on the demand that your supply has created?

TRUTH!

It still makes me want to keep an eye out for cheap 7.3's though. If you can't beat em join em!
