Stuff old enough to be smog-exempt does demand a certain premium there. There's also a chunk missing out of the middle of the used car market, between about 1976 and 1996, where a lot of vehicles have been junked because getting them to pass smog is too much of a hassle. Anything post-1975 with a carburetor is likely to be a particular ordeal.
