You can turn a V10 way up with a tune as well and not really suffer fuel economy. My 24' motorhome (2005 2v V10) gets 11 and is as quick as a sedan.

Just FYI, this forum is in no way v10 proud, the 7.3 guys are just off camping somewhere, or maybe working second jobs for some reason.

All this talk about the 7.3...
I've had three and one 2005 V10.
It's rather obvious which I like more, but that's not the question at hand.

Don't swap from gas to diesel. Fix or replace the V10. Very stout motor for everything except MPG.

I'm another who fully believes diesel engines are NOT for the average person, those who aren't skilled or very experienced mechanics on those types engines. Having read a few threads here of the expense involved in "simple" repairs or maintenance scares the bejesus outta me.

Your V10 with 200K miles still has a lot of life left in it---on FTE there's one fleet operator who regularly puts 500K and more on his E-Series people haulers without anything more than scheduled fluid and filter changes. He has demonstrated the spark plugs themselves will last up to 300K miles without issues.

Repairing the blown plug shouldn't cost more than $400 per hole---should you go this route make sure the installer would use the Time-Sert brand of inserts. It seems those have a huge fan base of users and mechanics who've used them.

Here's two links to a huge database of information dedicated to the Ford Modular Motors, this first one for the V10 specifically: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum49/

Within that same forum there's a thread about 5 Star Tunings whose owner Mike is pretty much a deity in the Ford V10 world, found here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...at-5-star.html. Along with his great product his dedication to customer satisfaction is simply amazing.

That's all just my $0.02 worth, take it for what its worth from a gas-only 5.4 owner.

I've ordered the Time-sert kit. I'm going to repair and replace the plug and then decide whether or not to do the diesel conversion

i would time-sert it, and forget about it. also, don't use anti-seize on the plugs if they are the 4-thread castings, which is likely.

the v10 is a great motor that should be totally reliable, beyond the plug-spitting issue, which is totally avoidable.

i prefer the diesel, and that's what is in my van, but both motors have their pros/cons.

not sure what part number is spec'd for the v10, you would need to look that up.

i like the ngk v-power copper plugs for my 5.4 in my Lightning, they seem very durable, and cheap. that is a bit of a different application, large frame turbo race truck...

since it sounds like a stock motor, motorcraft plugs would be a great choice as well. i believe autolite actually manufactures the motorcraft ones, so they may also have basically the same plug. i hear the iridium ones last a looooong time.

From the little I have researched it seems like the rotorcraft ones were redesigned to help prevent the dreaded blow out's. So I just want to make sure I am getting the newest design and correct plugs.
