I would think too weak for a 4x4. 2wd you would be fine. I have a 5.4 and people have done it, but I don't think it's strong enough for a 4x4 including the weight of my conversion. Good luck if you go for it anyway!

Re: 4.6 in a e250 van

I say try it. You could always rent a U-haul E250 for a day (those all have the 4.6L) and load it up, and see if performance is acceptable to YOU.

And... for that cheap.... if you decide later the 4.6L isn't enough, you can always drop a Cummins 5.9L (or even 6.7L) or slap on a Supercharger http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ed...view/make/ford

Re: 4.6 in a e250 van

the van is at my shop...the van was being shipped on a truck and it hit a Lowe bridge so it messed up the windo and the 2 front doors so we can fix it,,,its brand new...so do you think 4x4 would work? thanks.and the super charger sounds good but 6 grand...wow how much more power do you think it would make and how much boost can a 4.6 handle...

It is simple math. Fair market value - (your cost to buy + cost to fix) = profit, savings...

Sounds to good to pass up.

It's pretty much the same as the Mustang engine. They seem to hold up just fine at even 500+ HP.

Re: 4.6 in a e250 van

^^^ what he said. only real concern would be tuning, and im sure with as many people there are tweaking mustang ecus, you can find someone to do the same thing to a van ecu.
