So, do you spend your free time justifying your engine choice by minimizing other people's engine choices? This has to be like the fifth dig you have given against the 6.0L without offering anything constructive.

Your sig line says you're happy with your engine choice. Either you're really not, or you like to make yourself feel better by negating other people's choices.

Sort of reinforces the notion that commonly accepted service intervals are most likely overkill. Modern engines of any sort are probably designed to last longer that most owners can stand to own the same vehicle.

Come on Herb! It wasn't really 5 digs was it? Did I really offend you? I'll tone it down if I did. But did you even go to that site and read the first paragraph?

"ENGINE: 1,215,000+ miles and still running strong. Still has original water pump and original radiator hoses. The radiator cracked and was replaced in July 2004 but the hoses are still original. My first serpentine belt reached 502,979 miles before I changed it. I still have it as a trophy belt. ) I use 10W-40 motor oil and change it every 10,000 to 20,000 miles. The longest I’ve went between oil changes is 55,000 miles. It uses a quart of oil or more every tank of gas. I wait for the oil to turn black before changing it. Lucas Oil seems to slow the burning down. My last tune up was about 3 years ago. It’s running a bit rough and may need another soon."

Compare that attitude toward maintenance to what you read here. Oil changes every 20,000 miles? The math for tune ups looks like it works out to about every 250,000 whether it needs it or not! You know this guy ain't thinking about bypass filtration. I think his exhaust system lasted about 900,000. Yes I understand that this van is not a hobby for the owner so spending money on it and adding stuff to it is not the objective. The mileage on this van is nothing short of amazing.

I checked out the URL Silver350 left. I would have been impressed if someone got 500K miles out of the 5.4L engine and transmission. Not sure why others would take offence to this kind of post. There is no justification for this kind of rancor.

1,260,000 miles in 14 years = 90,000 miles per year = 1,731 avg. miles per week for 14 years??

Surprised he had any time to do any maintenance.

Doesn't take much time when you follow the schedule he does. I though I was pushing it with 10,000 mile oil changes, and he's gone as long as 50,000!

Even more amazing is how the guy managed to earn any income.

To hit those mileage numbers he would have to be behind the wheel about 6 hours a day 5 days a week. And that is generously assuming an average speed of 60mph.

Does not leave much time for work, unless driving/transporting is the work itself.
