Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

Yeah only that it's a good idea anyway. The deal is I really don't think that is the problem. Most can find a code if it is failing from what I've read so it's more of a "well I know it aint that now" kind of thing. The wiring harness also has always stuck in the back of my mind when on the trail. I don't have a clue what that would cost to replace.

There is this place out of Fresno called Browns Diesel. I don't really know anything about them but have seen some good reviews. Problem is they are reviews on trucks not vans.

Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

My situation really makes me want the Auto Enginuity software. The CPS wouldn't throw a code through some hard test driving, but the technician's system finally caught a transient condition/code which led to replacing the CPS.

I should have checked with him to see if he was using AE or something else.

I agree that easter-egging (replacing parts to see if it fixes a problem) is just throwing good money after bad, and you'll never know if the problem is fixed or not.

Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

I just ordered one of Ed's FICM's...the 40HP model. Doubt that is the problem but it's a start. I'll have the shop look over the ICP and wire harness and sockets.

Interesting guy to talk to and he's loaded with information. Well worth the phone call.

Dave, you may have seen my comment in that other thread about my van comparing to that van doing the line lock tire smoking. I have no power, no off the line oomph, no reaction to pressing the go pedal for about 3 seconds and only get 12 - 14 mpg. What we have here are "special need" vehicles. Silly me for expecting normal performance and dependability from the manufacturer.

Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

One of the things he told me was the upgraded FICM isn't the same as an aggressive tuner but does help the turbo spool up faster and I'll get better hole shot. One of the mechanics at work purchased the 60 HP upgraded FICM and he said the difference was like night and day. I'm not worried about adding more HP right now but the slight upgrade won't hurt. The only thing Ed said was that as long as I watch the EGT's I'll be OK with the 40. Highway 108 has a 26% grade and is one place I pay very careful attention to that gauge but I've never gone over 1200 yet. I doubt the new FICM will cause too much more heat. I'd like to go with a 4" exhaust one of these days but first I got to find out why this thing is dying.

Re: 6.0 PSD just dies

Copy that Dave... I have never been stranded or towed (knock knock) as of right now but I no longer go very far off road because I don't trust this vehicle to get me back home.

Dave - I called them today and talked to Eileen. I'm going to pull my module this weekend and send it to them for the 40 HP PHP and the Premium rebuild. I'd be interested in comparing notes with you after we get a chance to try it out. My Scan Gauge readings do not show any voltage problems right now but based on Zeta's recent experience and the OEM reputation of said part I think this is a strong first step for me in trying to love my van again. Also some other bullet proofing / strengthening steps to follow. The people that actually wrote the program have an interesting web site too. http://www.gopowerhungry.com
