I've driven 2 vans with the 7.3...one regular passenger van and an SMB. Both were pretty quiet to me and barely noticeable at highway speeds under no load.

Hey, I've got no dog in this hunt, but I'm curious....
....which diesel "makes its presence known" more, a 6.0 or a 7.3?

Briefly test-drove a 6.0 E350 and it definitely made way more clatter inside the van than does my 5.8.

QuietRide Solutions is another good one. I have ridden in a 7.3 SMB before and after this job. The difference was amazing.

7.3 is louder than a 6.0. Both are super loud compared to the newer diesels tho. You could barely hear the 6.7 running in my last truck.

Definitely true. My 6.0 was loud but the 7.3s I rode in and heard were even louder. I did have some success with the Quiteride Solutions kit in reducing the noise on my 6.0. Depending on your level of commitment and/or concern its an easy way to go. It also reduced some of the heat radiating from the doghouse.

Quietride doghouse kit definitely helped the noise on my 7.3. Highly recommended.

Thanks all, I will give quiet ride a call. It seems pretty spendy though. From my reading, it seems like a combination of Dynamat (or similar cheaper alternative, Noico on Amazon of B Quiet) plus some Thinsulate might be the best combination.

Quiet Ride is one layer of dynamat and one layer of "HeatShield" no clue what that is...I'll give them a call. I do really like that it's all pre-cut, convenient. Conversion shops want $5000-$7500 to insulate, which amazes me.

old doghouse cover - what to do?

since you guys are on the subject does anyone have any thoughts on this old "doghouse cover" from the 1987 e-250 that i'm trying to fix up?!?!

i'm happy to just sew some nice fabric on the outside of it to make it look nice....but would also be willing to make a new one if it doesn't cost too much and people think it might make a big difference in heat and/or sound.... thank if anyone has any opinions!! cheers

Any idea how long this kit takes to install? I just ordered the complete kit, but have two small kids so I'm trying to decide if I've got time to do it myself some weekend or if I need to try to hire someone.
