A sad day and good day all at once ...

Sad day (July 8) ... Diesel Engine Care Plus Extended warranty expires. That scares the crap out of me. Now, it's just me and my 6.0PSD, on our own.

Good day (July 5) ... Dealership advises me that they are replacing the oil cooler under said expiring warranty. Asked about the EGR. They said they had to pull it and check it out before they know. I suggested I bring them a BulletProof Diesel EGR and just put it in instead of re-installing the existing one or a new Ford one if the existing one is bad. They agreed (turns out the existing one looked fine, but will be heading back to BPD to be reincarnated as a BPD EGR).

Picked the van up today hoping that a new oil cooler and BPD EGR will keep me going for a very long time.

All things considered, I felt good that the nice cashier at Ford advised me it had been 18 months since my last visit and the van was actually running fine when I brought it in. I had just been watching the EOT and ECT spread further apart over the last year and glad that they concurred that it was a sign of a failing oil cooler.

That sounds like a sweet parting gift. Congrats.

Good job keeping an eye on the temps. Sounded like you caught things and got them taken care of before it became a problem. Some people don't understand how important that is.

I’m glad to see you replace those parts with time tested and proven upgraded parts. Not only will you have a better more dependable engine but you also get peace of mind, and to me anyway, that goes a long way!

Your extended warranty was money well spent. Now you are good for a couple of hundred thou'.

Phil, those are important things to catch early. I just had all that stuff replaced (BPD) and I hope we both have a looong solid road ahead of us.

Hey Jeffrey - I've been following your thread and looks like you should be good for a long time. I had my engine out twice for the bed plate issue since I've had the van. Wish I understood the whole oil cooler / EGR thing more when they had the engine out for the bed plate, I would have done what you did. Anyway, it's done now.

Hi Mike - Ford actually comp'ed the warranty when I complained about all the problems I was having early in my van ownership, so I spent nothing on it. I sure am glad I pushed Ford for it though as I have used it plenty. The van has been running trouble free for quite a while though.

Now I just need more time to go use it ....
