Anyone have experience w/ aftermarket Differential Cover?

I tried searching but cannot find the specific info....looking for experiences, pros/cons to putting on a larger rear differential cover. The current one looks pretty rusted. It's on a 05 PSD w/ LSD.

Any suggestions to brand, etc.

Thanks,

Re: Anyone have experience w/ aftermarket Differential Cover

I replaced my stock diff cover with a Dynatrac mainly to provide more protection in case I hit a large rock or something.

ARB also makes a nice hardened cover that has a drain plug built in.

I went with Mag-Hytec.

It has cooling fins, and also a temp sender port which was my main reason for upgrading. It has a drain plug too.

Re: Anyone have experience w/ aftermarket Differential Cover

My Dynatrac rear cover snagged a rock on the rubicon trail and started to leak. I looked at skid plates but figured the plates would cause more of a problem if hit and jammed into the U-Joint. So I tapered the lip so it won't snag again. Hopefully I won't have that problem again.

Re: Anyone have experience w/ aftermarket Differential Cover

No way but a Rubicon trail guide was trying to get me to do it I accidently ended up on it and took the easy part back to tahoe...lots of big rocks though. That section really doesn't count IMO. I wasn't even in four wheel drive but thought I was

I was gonna say - there are a few spots that are nearly too tight to get the 4-door Jeeps through...

Re: Anyone have experience w/ aftermarket Differential Cover

The guide seemed to think I could do it if I took all the bypasses. Yeah right. We came in at Miller Lake and took the trail a few miles to the staging area. Even though that section is easy, it's full of fairly large boulders and I hit my read diff about 3 times. It didn't damage the Dynatrac cover but broke the seal and I found a small puddle of oil on my driveway the next day

In case anyone is wondering: IMO, having crossed the Rubicon Trail many times, by using "the trick" with the Atlas Transfer Case and a lot of time stacking rocks, you MIGHT be able to get an SMB 4x4 across the trail. However, there are several spots that are tight for Jeeps with granite on either side with no by-pass. Which is to say that you better not be in love with your paint or sheet metal...

That being said, if anyone wants to try, I'm there! I would love to watch! I'll bring my Jeep and a camera.

"Hi-jack" complete.
