Re: Back on the wagon!

Mike, sorry to hear about your “no start” in Death Valley. It must have been shortly after our visit with you Friday AM. I enjoyed seeing how your rig was set up. Good job.
The no start is troubling, what was the actual repair made? Was the EGR replaced or just cleaned? Could anything have done in the field to get you running? If this type of no start happens in the boonies the towing could easily cost $1,000+ with no AAA support. Also you are right, the 7.3 has more room than the 6.0. I really did not think it was possible to squeeze more stuff in the engine compartment and they did.

Re: Back on the wagon!

Hi Jack and Linda,

Nice to see you on the forum.

I was heading out in the morning, and it just wouldn't start. They only thing replaced was the EGR valve, with a new one. If I had a valve with me (and I knew or thought it was the issue) I could have replaced it myself. Maybe a couple of hours and the camp host would be upset. But, I had no idea it was the EGR - it could have been a dozen other things from FICM to an O-Ring on an injector. 20 minutes with Ford Software told the tech what the problem was.

And that is the main issue with new engines. You need sophisticated hardware/software to troubleshoot any problem. Not something you can do when stuck in the boonies. Scary since that is where I was headed when it refused to start.

Hope to see you on the road again,

Mike
