Best 6.0L service tech, central CA coast?
Following my other thread about my turbocharger that was replaced unnecessarily and then had the air & fuel filters replaced. Engine still acts slightly erratic at freeway speeds and has somewhat diminished power. No codes showing! I just don't think the dealer tech is ready for this one, and I don't want to pay them again for another costly wrong diagnosis. My regular mechanic suggests I take it to Diesel Injector Service in Santa Maria, CA, 70 miles away. Apparently they really know their stuff. Any other central coast recommendations? This thing needs a deep analysis.

When I was in Ventura, I used both of the below with great results.
Tarango's Auto Diesel Repair
1480 Harvard Blvd, Santa Paula, CA
805 933-3199
Ultimate Truck Performance
5651 Perkins Rd. Oxnard, CA
805 309-9900
https://www.ultimatetruckperformance.net/
Tarango's is a bit more old school, and Ultimate Truck is more current on the latest and greatest for diesel rigs. I'd be comfortable with either.

UPDATE:
It's been a while, and the problem had been consistent and slowly growing for months. The rig spent over a week at Tarango's in Santa Paula, and I took it home today, running fine (so far!). Hector, the owner, really knows his stuff and discussed symptoms and possible causes at a depth I have not heard from anyone else. He has the Ford computer analytical software, which was able to read codes that my ScanGauge never saw. Some codes were coming from the transmission but it was a wiring problem causing that confusion (tranny is fine). He put in my spare FICM and flash programmed it. Codes indicated a fuel delivery problem and he eventually found a wire or two on the injector harness that were fraying. Replacing them did the trick. He measured fuel pressure and flow and it was fine (since the dealer had recently replaced the fuel filters only and sent me home saying all was well). He monitored boost and vacuum while driving under load and determined the vacuum booster was leaking, so a new one was installed. He traced additional vacuum leaks to small hoses that seemed to be chewed on by small critters. Some were behind the dash and he got in there and replaced them. Now my brakes work much better. The dealer probably would have replaced the entire injector harness and other stuff until they 'discovered' the problem, costing me thousands more than necessary. I really enjoyed working with Hector, and recommend him. He is a diesel specialist. Thanks for the tip, Herb!

Glad you finally got it all sorted out. Having dealers/mechanics just throw parts at a problem (on your dime) frustrates me beyond belief.
Thanks for also posting the resolutions. Too many instances where people ask for help and never post how their issues were fixed, or if they were fixed.

I was so looking forward to making this report! I just had to wait so long to make sure it was real.

Well, that fix was short lived. A few weeks ago, the problem returned and worse. Diagnosis is one rotten injector and two half baked. So the new plan is to replace them all. Van is now at Tarango's for the job. Just hoping this will really do it.

As the first time owner of a 6.0 diesel, will be following this thread. I don't have anything to offer except internet support, and the following (for future information):
Reading this reminded me of researching the 6.0L and Little Power Shop's website - https://www.littlepowershop.com/common-6-0-powerstroke-problems-issues-and-fixes/
May wish to add these two shops / mechanics to the mechanic thread - http://www.sportsmobileforum.com/for...ith-12887.html
I'll also make a suggestion about the potential for the forum to create a sportsmobile mechanic map (Google?) so people can find a shop & mechanic based upon location.

That's a great idea----and I don't even own a 6.0!
There's another thread afoot suggesting we somehow create a list of resources (including personal contact info) state-by-state for break-down help etc. A map with hyperlinks giving contact details of each location would be fantastic.

Got my rig back today. Eight new injectors. What a difference. A few grand out of pocket. Hopefully this buys me another 90K miles. Hector Tarango showed me the printout of the performance graphs of all the old injectors, at cold and warm states. I am always glad to have real data rather than someone's best guess.

Glad you're back on the road Jeffrey, and sorry it took a return visit. Seeing real, objective data would give me a far better feeling too. Keep us updated as you get some miles on your repair.
