Best rear differential: Pt.2
2008 Ford/ Dana 60, Full Floater, single wheels.
All this talk on the other thread and my relative dissatisfaction with my LS made me curious. I opened up my diff, pulled an axle and found out that I had a Traction Lok. The Ford OEM issue LS.
Then I counted the splines on the axle: 32.
Then I searched the internet.
It appears that the choices are, well, limited. No pun intended.
ARB, maybe. Their catalog does not show late model years for a D60, 32 spline.
Richmond Gear/ Powertrax, Right Loc: Has a recent product offering. Drop in Locker
Power Lock: Will work with a slight shortening of one axle (.100"). So says my local gear shop.
It appears that all other Dana 60 applications are for different spline counts.

Re: Best rear differential: Pt.2
Can't you just swap the shafts for the correct spline count?

And get stronger, unbreakable shafts at the same time. And you can get your choice of bolt patterns, etc. when you order custom shafts.

Re: Best rear differential: Pt.2
Are you sure it's a full floater? The D60 full floater hasn't been under a van in quite a while.

Re: Best rear differential: Pt.2
The Hub sticks out if the center of the wheel and you can pull the axle without undoing anything except the axle bolts.

Best rear differential: Pt.2
I believe all recent E350 passenger models have this axle.

Re: Best rear differential: Pt.2
Our 2007 RB passenger van doesn't have a full-floater. I read somewhere that the vans had kind of a hybrid rear differential. D70 axle tubes mated to a D60 pumpkin with funky 32 spline axles. Not sure how accurate that info is.
The factory LSD has worked so far for us, but I'd love to get locking diffs for both the front and rear.

Best rear differential: Pt.2
The local gear shop said a Dana 70 Power lock will bolt right in and a 32 spline kit from a Dodge will fit my axles. They said a Power Lock is the most aggressive LS available, with about 3 times the bias of my current Traction Lock. Chris, anybody, any suggestions?

Re: Best rear differential: Pt.2
You can drop a Dana 70 carrier in. Your axle housing should say D705u (or something like that). Mine came with the D60 carrier originally, and the D70 dropped dight in, giving me a larger ring gear.
PS - '08 and '09 vans with RSC have the full floater.
