Sorry to be late to the party, but even though you have a 5.4 gasoline engine I believe we share the same painted fuel tank. So you probably should first examine the fuel filter for delaminating paint remnants (fine fuel pump macerated silver dust or flakes or goo) before you go further chasing down other gremlins.

Here are a few things you may do to troubleshoot..... http://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/ford/4 ... ondition-1 also you can prime with a little gas in the intake tube if it tries to start you know you're getting spark. double check the fuel pump fuse and the inertia switch. good luck

Re: Busted in Barstow need fuel pressure gauge

Well, it's the fuel pump again. this one lasted 9months. We might be spending the night in back of a used car lot, unless I can find one pretty quickly. Oddly, there are two different ones (two and three lines) and the vin number doesn't tell you which one. I'm pretty sure it's three though, but we will know as soon as its out.

Odd.

Do delaminating tanks jack up fuel pumps as well?

Is your existing fuel pump under warranty? Most have at least a 1-year warranty and many even longer.

Only $470.00 and were on the road again. This time with a life time gaurinteed pump. Had this happened tomorrow, the tow driver told me his last tow from Death Valley was $1900. I don't think my towing insurance would have covered it. I'm very happy we're off to the desert....

Glad to hear you're on the road again. Still sucks.

Yes, at least on the 7.3L PSD OEM fuel pump, there is a nonserviceable internal screen in the fuel pump which can clog up. Here is the internal dissection thread of the 7.3L PSD OEM stock fuel pump by Pete username F250_ on ford-trucks.com:

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/12...-and-pics.html

Pete's photos of the inside of the pump are attached.

But I don't know where your gasser fuel pump is located. Is it on the frame rail like my 7.3 or is it in the fuel tank like my Bronco?

But prove me wrong. I am just trying to help, but you have a 5.4L gasser on which I have no experience, so I could very well be wrong. But here's the deal, it really couldn't hurt you to look at your fuel filter and determine if it is clean or not.

I mean can't we all agree, that a filter is meant to restrict. And a dirty filter will generally restrict too much reducing fuel pressure and volume.

And that could lead to a fuel pump (and even worse - injectors) which is starved from fuel which can cause heat build up, which, at the very least, can hurt engine performance and maybe pump longetivity.

All gasoline engine fuel pumps are in the tank, which requires a tank drop. Someone said it was 'not bad' earlier in this thread. Perhaps they have a lift and 4 gorilla strength arms about the diameter of a pencil. I consider dropping the tank absolute hell. The fuel filters, on the other hand, are forward of the tank on the frame rail, and are a quick and easy 5 minute swap. Ask me how I know!
