Probably the old filter dropping into the pan of dirty oil. Notice the drops go up.

I was just thinking about the splatter on the oil filter. I thought maybe if there is a fuel leak, that is what got on there and marked it up. The seller said he changed the oil a few months ago, so that filter isnt that old.

I updated the original post to include the photos right side up.

BajaSportsmobile - If I get this one, it may be headed down to El Cajon for a lift (2wd)! I'll tell my wife that we're heading down to visit her sister...

I did notice that about the drops. That's part of what had me confused.

Mikracer,

How about these?

http://gobestauto.com/ViewDetails.aspx?VID=727

http://gobestauto.com/ViewDetails.aspx?VID=898

http://gobestauto.com/ViewDetails.aspx?VID=899

All have less than 70K mileage.

Good Luck,
Ray

Thanks Ray! The one I looked at for my attention because it isn't a white van. It's also much less than the price of the ones you listed. If I were going to spend that kind of money, I would buy yours! (Which isn't out of the question just yet)

Re: Buying 7.3 E350 but has leaks...

My 7.3 with 310k no leaks no oil build up. The f250 7.3 I owned for a couple years with 260k, also was dry. Granted my sample size is 2. I used to flip 7.3 trucks if I saw that much oil I would've assumed a turbo seal leak or worse oil pan gasket leak and walked away. Weird noises and leaks scare me. I don't wrench so if there's issues it means I gotta spend cheddar to fix it.

Re: Buying 7.3 E350 but has leaks...

I stopped by my local diesel shop and got some estimates. Doesn't seem too bad to get the most popular fixes done. The guy said to bring it by and he would look at it for free to pinpoint where the leaks were coming from. A steam clean of the engine and under carriage would cost $150 which seemed pretty reasonable to me.
