Can somebody explain the Amsoil oil filtration system?

So when I bought my sportsmobile the owner said something about the Amsoil. I was looking through the owners manual and paperwork stuff today and found a flyer on it. It states:

"Your new vehicle is equipped with an Amsoil Dual-remote oil filtration system. What this means is after your initial oil change somewhere between 5000 miles and 7500 miles you will not have to change your pan oil again under normal circumstances."

It then states that all I have to do is change my two oil fiters every 15,000 miles and add approximately 2 1/2 quarts of oil.

I have never heard of a system like this. Is this standard on all SMB's with the 7.3 turbo diesel? And how well does it work? I'd just like to learn more about the system, especially from SMB owners who have used it. Thanks

I have had the duel filters since new and switched to AMSOIL itself at 24K. I saw an increase in mileage and the engine seemed to run smoother. The filters are expensive but if you contact Jim he will set you up as a dealer so you can get stuff for cheaper. I don't have his number with me but will PM you unless someone else jumps in here. AMSOIL has been around for a long time and offer great products IMO. Google it. There are a few that stick with Ford products for the warrantee reason, but because AMSOIL is above standard if you keep to their recommendations you shouldn't have problems. Even our shop uses similar proceedures and test oil rather than following Fords guidelines and we have no trouble with Ford or GM. But that's up to you, anything can happen. Our shop gets as much as 15 K using testing and stock oil products.

The AMS Oil system is a dual filtration system that uses a synthetic oil. It is very common on diesel SMBs. Since the diesel engines contain such a large amount of oil, this system which extends the interval between oil changes, will save you money in the long run. It is also known to better the vehicle's performance as well as run more quiet.

SMB's AMS Oil representative is very helpful if you have any more questions. He is very familiar with SMBs and knows his product very well.

Jim from AMS Oil can be reached at (800) 709-2516.

I have also noticed a lot of great information regarding the AMS oil system on this site. You may want to check the archives for some more information.

Hope this helps!

There was a pretty good discussion on Amsoil not too long ago..... right about the time we had to prepare for our first oil change at 8k miles....

BUT if you have ANY questions.... CALL JIM.

Interesting stuff...I was just concerned because I have never heard of this system. The oil that the PO gave me is something like 5w 30...I have an 82 Mercedes diesel and I use 15w 40 in it. I always thought that the diesel engine required a heavier weight oil so I was surprised to see the lower viscosity oil. Is this normal? And what type of oil is everybody else using with this system?

I use Rotella T on my F250 7.3. I've let shops do the van so far- no Ams Oil system here, not that I wouldn't go for one but it's certainly not universial.
