driveshaft splines

So I've been hearing a clunk when coming to a stop and then sometimes when accelerating from a stop.

Ive searched this forum quite a bit looking for driveline info, slip yoke, driveshaft splines etc with not much luck..

Ive also looked at another enthusiast forum and there is a ton of info that covers ford pickup trucks but not much that shows our 1 piece aluminum drive line, and if the output from the trans has the same spline lube issue that the trucks have. It would be a cheap and fairly easy fix.

Is it as simple as just unbolting the four bolts on the rear of the driveline and pulling the driveshaft from the rear. Is this a slip-yoke type system. Will tranny fluid come out if I pull this.

Sorry for being so uninformed but I haven't pulled one of these from a van before.

Ive got the lube and im ready to go just dont know where to put it

Re: driveshaft splines

It is a slip joint and some ATF will come out. Remove the 4 bolts on the rear flange and pull the drive shaft out. Before doing that, grab the slip joint and move it side to side to see how loose it is if at all. Check u-joints at both ends as well.

Re: driveshaft splines

Do you have a factory limited slip rear axle? They can also "clunk" when in need of friction modifier.

I have an Eaton that was just installed, and it clunked before and still does.

Thanks for the info in your previous response, Ill pull it with a oil catch under the trans output and check u-joints while im there.
