Thanks . No clue if I will be going with FICMRepair or BPD. Still need to get it into a shop. Either way I'm not going stock this time.

Re: Engine Codes - P0299 and P0611 (FICM and Turbo)

I noticed the other day that my FICM voltage was at 44-46 after initial start up. Thought it was another FICM going out. Few dys later voltage had dropped to 12.4.
200 miles from home had to have alternator replaced to the tune of $650.....I had a new 200amp one sitting on the shelf at home, that did not help at all.
Get a decent bluetooth OBD2 reader and download Torque app so you can use your pad or phone as guages

Re: Engine Codes - P0299 and P0611 (FICM and Turbo)

I just got some readings off my Scangauge II. Not sure if these numbers mean much in diagnosing the problem.

Key to Radio On (not started)
Battery Voltage (VLT): 12.2 - 12.3. Drops to 11.2 when warming up glow plugs
FICM Main (FMP): 47.0
FICM Logic (FLP): 11.0
FICM Vehicle (FVP): 11.5

Starting Engine
Battery Voltage (VLT): 8.4
FICM Main (FMP): 46.5
FICM Logic (FLP): 11.5
FICM Vehicle (FVP): 12.0

Driving Around
Battery Voltage (VLT): 13.0 - 14.0
FICM Main (FMP): 46.5 - 47.0
FICM Logic (FLP): 13.0 - 14.0
FICM Vehicle (FVP): 13.0 - 14.0

Idle
Battery Voltage (VLT): 13.1 - 13.6
FICM Main (FMP): 47.0
FICM Logic (FLP): 13.0
FICM Vehicle (FVP): 13.0

Batteries

How long after startup are you reading idle voltage.....over 2 minutes is what it takes before the alternator starts charging....then it should show 14.1-14.4

Re: Engine Codes - P0299 and P0611 (FICM and Turbo)

I'm never getting above 13.8 on the battery voltage, even after 15 minutes or more of driving. It is actually more consistent at 13.1 - 13.4. I am bringing it into a shop on Friday that was recommended by a fellow SMB Forum member so I should know more soon. I'll be sure to keep this thread updated for prosperity's sake.

Re: Engine Codes - P0299 and P0611 (FICM and Turbo)

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving. We just got back from a long trip to central and northern California and all ran well. Which is good considering that our bank account is a lot lighter. I got the van back a day before our trip and had a lot of work done. The good news is that the FICM is actually fine. I monitored it the entire trip and never dropped below 46.5v and was almost always at 47.0 - 47.5.

The work we had done was a new turbo...again. They found that Ford replaced my initial turbo with one of the early style turbos (the ones that typically have problems). They used the newer style Garrett turbo. The EGR valve was hanging open as well so that was cleaned. Also found excessive leakage in the exhaust manifold by the heads so that was fixed. Both CAC hot side hoses were bloated so they were replaced.

I had a coolant filtration system installed and I also had them do a full coolant flush and it was replaced with BG Super Cool.

Finally, I had a SCT X4 custom program installed on the van. It now shifts much cleaner/smoother and there is a noticeable boost in low end torque even though they used a conservative tune. After all of this we noticed our coolant and oil temps were both running about 10 degrees cooler than they did before. I wish it wasn't so much money but I am very happy with the results.

Love my SCT economy tune. You will need to put the stock tune back on for smog checks. I was concerned that the EGR valve might not open correctly but it worked perfectly and passed smog without any issues.

I figured that was the case even though I was told it should pass even without reverting back to the factory settings. I just had the smog test a couple months ago so I have a year or two to wait. I will have to learn how to use the tuner at some point although it seems pretty straightforward.

Re: Engine Codes - P0299 and P0611 (FICM and Turbo)

All the tune does is advance the timing a little bit to gain the HP. It shouldn't affect a smog test unless it is also turning off the EGR valve. Which is something you can have most custom tune writers do, especially if you intend to delete the EGR cooler at some point. In which case, you would need to put it back to the OEM strategy.

The fact that it is running cooler tells me the EGR is staying closed. Easily checked if you have a scangauge.
