F.O.R.D

F.O.R.D "Found On Road Dead"

I know this does not happen very often but if it ever has then what part do you wish you had with you? Even if you could not install the part, a small town mechanic might need it. What parts have cause you grief?

Re: F.O.R.D

The only thing I've ever wished I had with me, and didn't, is extra trailer spare tires. We go through a lot of those, and finding a tire store late night anywhere between the coasts seems nearly impossible.

Re: F.O.R.D

Just this last weekend I was towing a buddies boat and it was 4 am on a dark stretch of highway when I lost a trailer tire. Between the noise from the diesel and the stereo I didn't hear the tire blow and couldn't feel it. The lack of sleep may have played a part here and it is also a small ski boat. Bottom line is I didn't know anything was wrong until the steel rim hit the pavement, by the time I pulled over the rim was trashed. I had a spare but it was off my boat trailer and although it fit it was underrated for the weight. I did a couple of quick Google searches and located a Walmart about 20 miles away and they had a trailer tire mounted on a rim on the shelf and they are open 24 hours. People say a lot of bad things about Walmart but I sure was glad to find on as we were supposed to be boarding a houseboat the next morning at 10 AM and if I had to wait for a tire store to open there was no way I was going to make it.

F.O.R.D. = Fix Or Repair Daily
F.O.R.D. = Fast on Race Day

Re: F.O.R.D

The only mechanical problem I have ever had on the FORD side is the vacuum Pump.

The tow truck

Actually I might want S-belt, maybe some of the sensors that can shut down the engine. I actually try to think "what can I carry that can be a field fix for a mechanic that needs to meet me where the tow truck can't go".

Re: F.O.R.D

Spare parts are a great idea if you have the room. U-joints-hoses-belts-fan clutch-t stat w/gasket-& tools for same is a good start.

Re: F.O.R.D

I carry my AAA card. Saved me over $300 on a tow in northern Yukon Territory. You could never carry enough parts for the possible problems (injectors, turbo, alternator I've had fail), nor could most of them be changed on the side of the road.
