Ford E350 a/c
I serviced my 2004 Ford RB50 a/c recently and the rear vent stopped blowing air. The fan works and cold air is trying to circulate but only gets as far as under the sink, nothing through the rear vent.
The a/c guys are telling me that the cabinets need to be removed to check out the malfunction. Is this correct?
I have a microwave, sink and fridge, how difficult is this process?
Thanks,
Dennis

Re: Ford E350 a/c
Sink shouldn't be in the way, microwave is probably and easy pull and the fridge is easy (screws behind trim)- but that only gets you to the wall and then you're taking off the counter, cabinets and wall itself. Seems like a last resort instead of a first step.
How do you know it only "gets to under the sink"?
What did you have done?

Re: Ford E350 a/c
I had the a/c serviced (stopped blowing cold air) and the rear vent never worked after that. The rear blower works (I can hear it) and cold air is being forced out around the panel under storage and the porta-potti cabinets, but nothing out the rear (driver side) vent.
The a/c work is still under warantee, but they are telling me that the problem is somewhere behind the panel and they need to remove all the cabinets to examine.
Thanks,
Dennis

Re: Ford E350 a/c
It's all screws down to the wall, not sure how that is attached. Good opportunity to check you insulation and whatnot.

Re: Ford E350 a/c
Do you know where I can locate a diagram, schematic or cut-away that shows what is behind the panel?
Thanks,

Re: Ford E350 a/c
Another clue!
When I turn on the rear A/C, the blower turns on, the rear vents don't blow air, but HOT air comes out the bottom side vent under the sink cabinet....
Are some hoses connected in reverse? This all started when I had the A/C serviced.

Re: Ford E350 a/c
On the stock AC, the floor vents (which are hear) are the default if the rear blend door loses vacuum. It's also possible that the actuator has broken off the door. That fix is a PITA, so check the vacuum lines first. Definitely not mis-connected hoses. Also, do you even have AC selected? If you have the front HVAC on heat or defrost, the rear HVAC will go to heat, regardless of where the temp knob is pointed.

Re: Ford E350 a/c
I took it to my local Ford dealer and they diagnosed a faulty actuator and door. The estimate is $800 if I take out the cabinets first, and $1,500 if they do the complete job. Is this reasonable?
