Ford Extended Warranty Questions

Curious to see what other SMB owners picked for Ford's ESP warranty options. We just purchased our '07 SMB and are exploring the various Ford ESP Warrany plans out there.

What terms did you choose and how much did it cost? Who did you purchase it from, etc. What has been the general reception of your rig when you brought it in for warranty service?

Our plan is to keep this thing for the next 10 years and drive it until either the wheels fall off...or our daughter refuses to go on road trips w/us...whichever comes first.

Thanks,
Jeff & Maranda

If your daughter is older than 5 you'll never make it 10 years!

My PO SMB came with the extended warranty to 75K. I'm at 50K now and those 25 seem pretty golden to me, what with all the issues I've had.

I have had decent luck getting dealerships to fix one thing at a time. Asking them to address multiple issues is usually a no-go. I have actually been told "You know these vans aren't easy to work on" by a service manager as way of explanation for not addressing B, or C while doing A (having had the van for 3 days). But even without the explanation I've learned that usually only the most major thing gets addressed.

I pay a $100 deductible now, and when the warranty is up I'm never going near a dealership unless it's for some reason a reputable one that I can work with, which to date I know of exactly one.

Thanks Jage, that helps. I'm considering the 7 year/75k mile ESP, since it's available.

There is a Ford dealership in Pasadena, which I am hoping will be pleasant to work with. I'm with you though...I hate going to Dealerships to have work done on vehicles.

Our daughter is almost 2, so we have a few years to abuse her on long road trips

Isn't the engine covered for 100,000 miles anyway? What does this add?

Mike;
The Powerstroke warranty is extended out to Seven [7] years and 200,000 miles.
Considering the cost of diesel repair and in light of the problems associated with the Powerstroke engine[s] this could be very cost effective.
Check it out @ Yahoo powerstroke group.
Or call Ford @ 1-800-367-3377 and just hang on until a representative answers.

I bet that if a thorough search is done, the extended warranties can be found for far less.... earlier this year when we decided to get the extended warranty for our 2006 Toyota, we were ablt to get the $2000 MSRP 7 yr/100k mile warranty for $900.

,,,just need to find that dealer that is willing to make a little and sell a lot...

Call the people offering the extended warranty and ask for a better price. They are often negotiable! Even the non dealer ones

Diesel = expensive...I would always get the warranty

The standard 5yr/100k warranty is fine with me. If I discover that I've got a lemon (so far, so good), I may buy an extended warranty.....but hope I don't need to.

There is a subjective element to all warranty work on "modified" vehicles like an SMB. Yes, I know the legal requirement that the dealer "prove" the mods created the problem....... I also know that I don't have the time or legal resources to arm wrestle Ford should they deny a warranty claim. Bottom line is I have doubts about paying for protection that may be hard to enforce should I need it.
